Fulham earns draw with United on Hangeland's late header

The goal came just five minutes after Hangeland put his team behind with an own goal, and only two minutes after Nani had a penalty kick saved by Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale that would have wrapped up the win for the visitors.

United has now earned just one point from its last three trips to Craven Cottage in the league, and they have already fallen behind defending champions Chelsea, who have recorded back-to-back 6-0 wins to start the season.

Paul Scholes got United off to a great start with a well-struck shot from 30 yards that found its way into the bottom-right corner of the net in the 11th minute.

United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar then produced two successive saves on Dickson Etuhu to keep his team in front, but he couldn't keep out a first-time effort from Simon Davies in the 57th minute that was set up by Bobby Zamora.

Zamora then came within inches of giving Fulham the lead 10 minutes from time with a volley that skipped just past the post.

However, it looked like United would steal all three points when Nani's corner kick deflected off the leg of Hangeland and ended up in his own net.

Nani could have put the result out of reach three minutes later, but he had his penalty kick saved by Stockdale after Damien Duff handled the ball inside his own area.

And the Portuguese winger was made to pay for his miss two minutes later as Hangeland got up to meet Duff's corner and turn his header off the fingertips of Van der Sar and into the net.

Newcastle was easily handled by United in its opener, but the Magpies stunned Aston Villa on Sunday behind three goals from Andrew Carroll in a 6-0 thrashing at St James' Park.
